Offering a Variety of Specialized Programs to Adolescents and Children with HIV and AIDS
Incarnation Children’s Center (ICC) is a New York City-based facility, offering a variety of specialized programs to adolescents and children with HIV and AIDS. Affiliated with the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, the not-for-profit corporation offers comprehensive medical care that includes an HIV-specialized pediatrician, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and 24-hour nursing care. Children at Incarnation Children’s Center also benefit from a variety of social and rehabilitative services, including school placement and occupational, speech, and physical therapies.
Since its inception in 1988, ICC has provided children in its care with a comfortable and nurturing environment in which to develop fully as individuals. Many children admitted to the Center come from poverty-stricken backgrounds where access to social services is severely limited. Neglect, drug abuse, mental illness, and various forms of abuse are also not uncommon themes amongst the communities where these children are raised.
Incarnation Children’s Center is distinguished by the efforts its staff and volunteers make to ensure that the negative effects of HIV and AIDS on quality of life are minimized. Therapeutic services offered at ICC include art, recreation, and music programs. Children also enjoy animal-assisted therapy and outings around the city on a regular basis.
For the past several years, ICC has held an annual Hearts for Hope fundraiser. The 2012 silent-auction event featured His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan as the distinguished guest, and there were a number of honorees from the greater New York community. Incarnation Children’s Center encourages people with a dedication to helping others to contact the organization and become involved in volunteer capacities.
